My name is Shevon Gant and I am a native New Yorker who has been in love with clay since the very first time I held it in my hands. As a ceramic artist, what speaks to me most about this medium is the interplay between art and science. The raw materials that inform a ceramic piece intrinsically parallel the human experience. When you hold a piece of pottery in your hands you are holding the elements that came together to create it: earth, water, and fire.

Truly handmade pottery is a wonder to behold (and hold!) and completely different from the mass-produced items you find in most stores. Each Shevon Gant piece is made of either durable stoneware or porcelain clay. Each piece is made by hand in my studio except for the upcycled restaurant ware which I first decorate and then re-fire.

I knew from a very young age that I would be dedicating my life to the pursuit of the fine arts and ceramics in particular. I received my B.F.A in sculpture in 2002 and have been teaching art and sculpture in addition to working as an artist ever since. The driving force behind my work is the creation of art that is modern, playful, and a practical addition to any home.
